QATAR 2022: LUSAIL ICONIC STADIUM EXAMINED

The Lusail Iconic Stadium, also known as the Lusail National Stadium, is one of the eight World Cup Stadiums for the Qatar 2022 tournament and it has a capacity of 80,000. Of all the eight World Cup Stadiums for the tournament on Qatari soil at the end of next year, Lusail Iconic Stadium has the biggest capacity. It has at least 20,000 more in capacity than any of the other World Cup Stadiums as far as the Qatar 2022 tournament is concerned.

It has already been decided that Qatar 2022 matches in Group C, D, G and H would be allocated to Lusail Iconic Stadium and the trio of Education City Stadium, 974 Stadium and Al Janoub Stadium.

Lusail Iconic Stadium is one of the seven outdoor match venues at next year’s World Cup tournament in Qatar. The only indoor match venue at Qatar 2022 is the Al Bayt Stadium and it has a capacity of 60,000. The Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor is the second largest match venue in Qatar behind the Lusail Iconic Stadium.

The Lusail Iconic Stadium was opened officially on November 21, 2021 and it would be thematch venue for both the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony as far as the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament is concerned. This means that the Lusail Iconic Stadium will host the opening and closing matches in Qatar next year. Lusail Iconic Stadium is one of seven World Cup Stadiums converted for the tournament in Qatar.

Just like what’s obtainable with the other World Cup Stadiums, the Lusail Iconic Stadium will be cooled with the use of solar power and it has a zero carbon footprint.

At the end of the World Cup tournament in Qatar, the Lusail Iconic Stadium would be reconfigured into a 20,000-seater match venue.
