The FIFA 2022 World Cup is just a little over a year away and fans are still getting excited and prepared for football’s most prestigious tournament. The tournament will be hosted by Qatar this time and the country has been putting in loads of effort to ensure that everything is put in place before next year so everything will go smoothly.
As well as other plans and arrangements, Qatar has continued to ensure that the Stadiums that have been selected for the event will be ready as the date approaches gradually. Let’s take a look at the eight stadiums that have been chosen as the World Cup 2022 venues.
- Al Janoub Stadium
Capacity – 40,000
Inauguration Date – May 2019.
Stadium Location – Wakrah
This particular stadium was the very first of the rest to be erected right from the scratch. It will be host to several games at the World Cup, including some last-16 ties.
- Education City Stadium
Capacity – 40,000
Inauguration Date – June 2020
Stadium Location – Education City
This stadium was inaugurated via a virtual event which was used to pay tribute to the selfless health workers who put their lives on the line to save lives affected by the coronavirus. It will host games at the World Cup till the quarter-final stage.
- Khalifa International Stadium
Capacity – 40,000
Inauguration Date – May 2017
Stadium Location – Doha
This stadium was the first to be ready for use. It will host World Cup games till the third-place play-offs.
- Al Bayt Stadium
Capacity – 60,000
Stadium Location – Al Khor
This stadium will serve as the host venue for games at the World Cup till the semi-final stage.
- Al Rattan Stadium
Capacity – 40,000
Inaugiration Date – December 2020
Stadium Location – AL Rayyan
This stadium will host games till the round of 16 stage.
- Al Thumama Stadium
Capacity – 40,000
Stadium Location – Doha
This will be venue front World Cup matches till the quarter-final stage
- Ras Abu Aboud Stadium
Capacity – 40,000
Stadium Location – Doha
This stadium is a demountable one. The first of its kind in the competition’s history. It will host games at the World Cup till the round of 16 stage.
- Lusail Stadium
Capacity – 80,000
Inauguration Date – 2021
Stadium Location – Lusail City
This is the largest stadium that will be used at the 2022 World Cup. It will host games at every stage of the tournament till the final.
